Gosh life has been non-stop over the past couple of weeks…
I mean, we’ve been on holiday to Burleigh (full post scheduled for next week – it was fabulous) then as soon as we arrived home, Beckie and I unpacked (to a fashion) repacked (all in about three seconds flat – I forgot nearly everything I had planned to wear) then hot-tailed our asses to Brisbane for a Mumma/Daughter girls weekend.
One last hurrah before Beckie plunged feet first into her Law career.
Quick update: She started her full-time gig on Monday (14th) and is already as happy as a sky lark…although I’m not sure she is loving the 5:30am alarm call 😉
Yes a much-needed couple of days away with my baby girl was on the cards – just the two of us – I was in heaven.
Time for me to reflect back on the past 23 years and 10 months of Beckie’s life (you can read her birth story here) and smile with pride at every opportunity – when she wasn’t looking of course!
The weekend before she started work. BAM – it took less than a millisecond to agree.
The Hilton had organised an early check in for us, so we could
start shopping make the most of our stay.
To be honest, Jonny and I have stayed at the Hilton before, so it felt really good returning.
Kind of like that comfortableness you feel, knowing that everything will be taken care of.
After checking in, we headed straight to our room on the 23rd floor.
If glass lifts are not your thing, then don’t look down – but the view of the reception/bar area is spectacular, lit by the natural daylight flooding in from the Atrium.
As girls do, when they are packing and preening; both of us had forgotten to eat breakfast, so we dashed straight to the executive lounge for a quick drink and a pastry.
(One of the perks of staying in an executive room is the executive lounge on the 25th floor. It offers continental breakfast, light refreshments and snacks, afternoon tea and pre-dinner drinks and canapés – all included in your room rate – delightful I tell you!).
What I loved most about the lounge though (besides the city scape) was how welcome you are made to feel.
Both new and regular guests are treated like family – hence to say we headed back for those pre-dinner drinks and canapés I mentioned – the place was a hive of activity, buzzing with laughter and not at all stuffy and formal.
But the best thing of all about staying at the Hilton (besides the bed, which I’ll get to) has to be it’s position.
A short lift ride from the lobby and you find yourself at the Wintergarden Shopping Centre. Queens Street Mall is also right opposite.
If you shop up a storm (or if your name is Beckie and your feet start to throb) you are a stones throw away from your room.
On our hit list was David Jones (hello CR Group staff discount), Mecca and Zara – all shops I don’t have access to on the coast.
Apologies for the dodgy pic but I’m quite the excitable shopper!
After enjoying a few champagnes in the lounge we headed down to the lobby for a drink in the bar, followed by a fabulous dinner at Vintaged Bar and Grill.
Yep I know. The whole meal was delicious.
And before the night was over, we even managed to catch up with one of Beckie’s friends – which was the icing on the cake!
Now can we just address the comfy bed situation for a second?
Normally, I am such a light sleeper – but I slept like a baby.
If Beckie hadn’t put the light on at 8am, I would probably still be sleeping there now 😉
B L I S S
This weekend away with Beckie meant the absolute world to me.
But it got me thinking…
Jonny and I don’t make enough time to dash down the highway for the night – for no other reason than just because.
Or how about two girlfriends catching up for a city sleep-over, and not rushed drinks and cab fares home.
Or even the coming Easter Break – you don’t need to go far to feel fantastic and re-energised.
Book a hotel in YOUR city.
Giggling, shopping, talking and generally celebrating our love for each other, was just what we Beckie and I needed.
But how about you?
When was the last time you threw caution to the wind and booked a 1/2 nights stay close to home?
Staycations are simply wonderful. They do the trick.
The best bit? Hardly any planning involved.
Especially if you sign up for the Hiltons’ HHonors loyalty program.
Why? Because you are guaranteed the best room rate.
Yes. I know, I was shocked too.
No need to search all the big sites for the perfect price.
#stopclickingaround and go straight to the source.
Just pick up the phone or email direct, to reach the best price available.
The finest escapes are often the ones that revitalise you, but with very little effort thrown in.
Pack one small suitcase (or a small truck load if your name is Bev and Beckie) and escape the mundane, just for the night.
If tennis is your thing – there is a court. I know who knew the Hilton had a city tennis court – not me!
Take a dip in the heated pool.
Go to the gym.
Or just do nothing.
The Hilton Brisbane is the perfect hotel for this.
Hand your car keys to concierge the moment you arrive.
Walk through the doors, breathe and relax – I know we did!
And one last thing before I go…
Let me quickly tell you about Saturday morning.
We headed off to Adam Graham Jewellers in Tattersalls Arcade (a stones throw from the Hilton – pun very much intended).
Beckie simply adores diamonds, she was thrilled we had the opportunity to view the most exquisite collection.
Let me just tell you, Beckie was transfixed.
Adam specialises in handmade engagement rings.
Yes engagement rings.
They were incredible.
Need I say more?
When Beckie’s Mr Right eventually comes along, he needs to know, she has very expensive taste!
Would a city staycation appeal to you? What are your plans for the Easter holidays?
