The Jeans Edit

Finding a great pair of jeans can be extremely difficult – especially if you have a big ass are a curvy lass like me.

I have lumps and bumps in all the wrong places.

Places that I would prefer not to have them, but hey-ho, they’re ALL mine  😉

Skinny snug jeans definitely work better for the junk-in-my-trunk.

If they are to lose, they add bulk – something I truly don’t need anymore of!

So lovelies, do you want to know one of the places I look when it comes to finding a great pair of jeans?

Sonia Styling.

I always check out which jeans Sonia has on high-rotation.

Yes its a FACT.

For some spooky reason – when that girls chooses jeans for herself, without knowing, she is inadvertently choosing them for me too.

How good is that?

Yep, then denim she invests in always seems to work for me.

Plus we all know she has fabulous taste – so I’m a very happy gal.

Note: I’m by no means comparing my butt to hers, I can confirm, not only is she a total stunner IRL, she is also teeny tiny with a great little bod.

My first pair of Sonia copy-cat jeans were from Katies – I have literally worn them to death. Yep. they are still  high on my go-to list over a year later.

Guess what?

Its happened again.

Hello Feather and Noise jeans – courtesy of Sonia Syling of course – I can take no credit for finding these babies 😉

I’m using these jeans as my outfit anchor and styling  them three ways.

All classic. All me.

I wanted to keep the colour palette neutral and just mix up the accessories and styles.

Look One: Adding a blazer.

This combination is me to a T.

My true comfort zone.

Firstly let’s just discuss the anchor piece: The Jeans.

Fit wise they are true to size.

The size 12 are snug on me (just how I like them) but not uncomfortable. They relax off nicely too, not to the point of becoming baggy, just relaxed.

You probably feel the same as me when it comes to wearing lighter denim – it can be a complete no no for anyone with a curvy butt and thighs, but these seem to work fine on my ass 😉

Jeans, tee, jacket and heels sums up everything I love in an outfit.

Comfort and style – packaged with a big gorgeous bow of understated elegance.

I’m balancing out the toughness of the jeans with a classic DJ style black jacket.

This one nips in beautifully at the back, which is perfect for slimming down the torso in all the right places.

Adding a loser top underneath adds interest and flow under a shapely jacket…it also disguises any hint of middle age muffin top!

Look Two: Cold Shoulder

The minute I noticed this top arrive at Country Road, it just had to be mine.

I pictured it with denim and a tan heel (plus Beckie’s Mulberry of course – which I’m trying not to photograph with every single outfit I wear).

There is something quite sexy about the design.

It’s so much more than a tee, but less than a formal blouse.

The touch of bare shoulder is very elongating and slimming when paired-back with a skinny jean.

Adding the tan gladiators lent easily towards gold accessories too.

This outfit would could take you almost anywhere, but especially out for a lunch date or early evening drinks.

Look Three: Flutter Sleeve Top

This soft and floaty look sits right on the edge of my comfort zone.

Although I’m totally a girly girl when it comes to hair and beauty, I don’t very often stray too far towards  floaty when it comes to my clothes.

I suppose my classic style personality is mostly conservative.

I love that it’s different to the norm for me though.

But pulling this look off, is all about balance.

You need to counteract the floaty-ness with a skinny leg (I’m talking about the jeans and not my thighs 😉 ).

It would be so easy to avoid this top just because you have a fuller bust, I say give it a try. Just make sure you counteract the volume with slim fitting pants/jeans.

Please excuse the different image sizes on the slideshow…the battery ran out on my SLR so I swapped to my Olympus (which was set on square and I didn’t know how to change it!

So tell me beauties, do you love your denim as much as I do? Got a favourite pair?

  • I’m a complete denim addicted and proud of it. I decided to order the light wash Katies jeans tonight and hoping that they will look as good as the dark wash, which I’m completely obsessed with.

    • Me too Karen, me too. So glad you ordered the light wash at Katies, you have a fabulous figure, so I already know they will work like a dream on you! xx

  • I have a very similar pair of jeans I picked up at Three Parsons. Loved them so much I bought them in plain and distressed!

    • You have such a fabulous denim collection Kimba – which you wear incredibly well! Mwah xx

  • Sophisticated Mumma

OMG I LOVE the jeans with the cold shoulder top. Just gorgeous! I always take note of what jeans both you and Sonia wear because I’m a fellow pear and I know if they look good on you, they may look half decent on me too 🙂 x

    • Oh Nat you have a fabulous figure, you truly do! I think these jeans would work like a dream on you too, especially with the cold-shoulder (I’m secretly hunting down every cold-shoulder top I can find at the moment – I’m bloody obsessed). xx

  • I can totally see why you’re drawn to Sonia’s jeans selections – they always look amazing on both of you. Those Feather and Noise jeans tick a lot of boxes and look so fabulous with all your outfits. And can we discuss the cold shoulder top – DIVINE. xox

    • Oh Wendy you’re just too lovely! Thanks darling.
I quite enjoy being a copy-cat with the gorgeous Sonia…as soon as I eye-ball a new pair of jeans on her, I’m onto them in a heartbeat. No effort from me at all! And the cold-shoulder top is the bees bloody knees. I LOVE it. Mwah xx

  • I have a big butt, thighs and short legs I totally understand. You always look gorgeous.

    • Chantelle, I love finding people who understand the complexities of a butt and thighs…the only difference between us is my legs are longer.(which can also be a hanicap when I can find things long enough). Thanks for the love beautiful xx

  • Sharon

I love it all! Your figure is to DIE for! The jacket and jeans is my hands down fav look, so classy and stylish and the flutter top….gorgeous…your necklace gives it a little toughness and it just looks beautiful. Great post with great advice, thanks darling. Hugs and love coming your way…mwah ? xx

    • You’re just too darn kind to me beautiful girl. Thank you so much for the love.
I agree, a jacket and jeans combo is my comfort zone and happy place rolled into one! I always feel ready for anything when I’m wearing them. It’s so funny since Beckie has been in her late teens, I have been trying to get her to embrace the ‘jacket, jeans and heels’ look – she fought it for a while, but I’m happy to report persistence won and now its her go-to! I’m a very happy Mumma.
Big hugs and tonnes of love Mwah xxx

  • Sonia is fab isn’t she! I wish I had her pins. I have lots of junk in my trunk baha! You look divine my dear, they totally suit you to a tee ! Especially with the flutter sleeve top, it’s magical! x

    • Oh Em thank you so much. Finding a flattering pair of white jeans is not easy with all of the excessive baggage I carry below my waist – these one have made me very happy though! xx
Ps. I totally agree, Sonia pins are perfect!

  • Lisa Mckenzie

You look amazing in these jeans Bev and I adore how you’ve styled them 3 ways,I have a few favourite pairs of jeans NYDJ,Katie’s and a CR pair if they fit and flatter, they are mine ??

    • Love your work Lisa…’if they fit and flatter they’re mine’ – this just underlines how well you know your figure!
I’m still to try NYDJ – there is nowhere that sells them close to me and I feel like I need to try them before I take the plunge! Thanks for the love beautiful xx

  • Merlindie Fardone

Those jeans look great. Love all the looks, especially the one with the cut out shoulder blouse. You always look great!

  • Suzie

You think you got curves! I’m built like a formula 1 track and size 8 Katies jeans are too big in the waist (!) but fit beautifully everywhere else. I’m finding the Sussan jeans work best for me but will give your suggestion a try. At my age I’ve learned to embrace the curves and as hubby says “you’ve got curves in all the right places and without them you’d be a bloke” ?

    • Love your hubbies thoughts Suzie. I’m guessing you must be a fabulous hour-glass by the sounds of that tiny waist…my favourite figure shape by far! I much prefer being curvy than column.
Must try the Sussan jeans, I see loads of girls rocking them on IG – so it’s time for me to give my ass in there toot-sweet! xx

  • I do love my denim and am currently obsessed by CR’s mid rise crop jeggings. They are perfect for me. Love these on you though! x

    • You rock your CR jeggings Vanessa. Truly you do. The vintage wash have been my favourites from CR (you look fab in these too) – I still struggle with the fit of CR for my pair-shaped butt and thighs though. You on the other hand have the perfect bod xx

  • Robyn Mensforth

Bev can I ask what size you got in that flutter sleeve top – it is just gorgeous on you!

    • Of course Robyn, I’m wearing a S – there is plenty of room too (even for my boobs). Thanks for the love xx

  • I do the same on Nikki’s Styling You blog. If I like something I see her modelling, I will go to buy it. I’m loving everything Katies is bringing out now. I generally stick with Katies jeans while I slowly lose weight after having a baby. I’ll keep these jeans in mind because my shape has definitely changed since having my third bub. As always, you never put a stylish foot wrong Bev. You are stunning. xx

    • Oh Bec you’ve made my day, thank you so much.
It’s so amazing when you find that go-to person for fashion. Someone that you know is doing the hard yards in finding key pieces that will work for you too! So agree with you over Katies jeans they are so comfortable and the price is just perfect. These Seed jeans have shocked me in just how wearable they are, especially being white – if you’re passing Seed, pop in and try them (I sized up though) xx
