Sentimental Me: The Birthday Celebrations

Pinch. Me.

How did I get so lucky?

I have a beautiful daughter that is healthy, happy and loving life.

She has wonderful friends. Friends that are always there for her.

As a Mumma, I couldn’t ask for more.

Most of you already know that Beckie didn’t have the best start in life.

Born at just 28 weeks, 23 years ago, meant survival wasn’t a given.

You can read her story here.

I never took anything for granted though. Every single day was a blessing, wrapped in up in a challenge.

Medical issues came and went.

And slowly, she got stronger.

Life was taken, one day at a time – with a lot of praying thrown in for good measure.

When I look back now, I can see how the struggles of those first weeks, shaped me into the Mumma I am today.

A Mumma that see’s no boundaries when it comes to the devotion I feel for my girl.

She is my best friend, my confidant, my gossip buddy and my sunshine – all rolled into one.

As far as I’m concerned, each one of Beckie’s birthdays requires a celebration.

It’s also the day when I take a moment to reflect at just how far my little premmie baby has come, from the darker days when her prognosis wasn’t that brilliant.

Also, as I didn’t get to see Beckie for Mother’s Day (I was working), we decided to have a joint celebration at lunchtime and make the evening all about her.

I know…can you believe Beckie wanted us to go out with her on the evening?…this request alone, makes me the happiest Mumma alive.

We feel totally blessed that she still wants to celebrate with us – I’m so proud that she is such a family girl.

Anyway, enough of the emotions…

For our joint lunch celebration, we decided on Stokehouse in Brisbane.

One word: D E L I C I O U S

My foodie sentiments are plain and simple – and ALWAYS have my tummies best interests at heart…when you are at a fabulous restaurant, calories don’t count 😉

We all chose different things from the menu:

Top row L to R 1. Smoked pork salad with black Angus tongue and beetroot. 2. Aged Risotto with slow braised quail and brown mushrooms. 3. Chicken liver Parfait.

Bottom row L to R: 4. Spanner crab and sweetcorn veloute with jalapeño salsa. 5. Kangaroo fillet. 6. Squid Ink Linguine with fresh crab.

My Mother’s Day card melted my heart and made me chuckle:

I pugging love you

My present was equally delightful…The Hourglass Modernist Eye Palette (I had longed for) – perfect pigmentation I tell you, and worth the investment.

This came highly recommended by the Drop Dead Gorgeous Barbe from Fashionista in Suburbia.

I also received another beautiful Mother’s Day present…You already know I’m a sentimental fool, right?

Can you imagine my joy when I received this totally amazing pendant from Uber Kate * – engraved with my girl’ signature?

Sentimental Me: The Birthday Celebration

It’s the perfect gift for a Mumma on her Birthday, Mother’s Day or indeed Christmas.

This will go on high-rotation along with my Uber Circle necklace that I received from Beckie for my 50th Birthday…just incase you did know, it was engraved with the words ‘you are my sunshine’ which is what I used to sing to Beckie in her incubator, 23 years ago.

So if you’re a complete emotional case like me, put one of these beauties on your wish list!

When we left Stokehouse, we were truly stuffed – but very happy.

I managed to snap a pic of my loves, on the way back to the car.

Beckie and Jonny 1

Did I mention we had resisted the temptation to have desert at Stokehouse? Why?

Because we knew this little bundle of awsomeness was waiting for us back at Beckie’s place.

This stunning cake was from TOME in Maroochydore – check out their Instagam feed.

In my book, no celebration is No birthday is ever complete without cake.

Let’s just say we managed 😉

Before we knew it, it was time to get changed and head in to South Bank to meet up with Beckie’s friends at Soleil Bar, Rydges Hotel.

It was so much fun.

I could tell Beckie was thoroughly enjoying herself.

She felt loved.

I was proud.

It was one of those moments that I will always treasure.

Can I come next year to please Beckie?
