Lets start with the confession.

My name is Bev and I have too many clothes.

Yes. I. Do…but can we keep this just between ourselves?

Jonny doesn’t need to know right? ๐Ÿ˜‰

So many clothes in fact, that I can’t see the wood for the trees.

My wardrobe is bursting at the seams and in urgent need of a wardrobe edit.

There are not enough days in the week, to wear all the stuff I own.

R I D I CU L O U S

I desperately need to cull.

But, I can never seem to find the time.

The urge to cull, always seems to come at a time when I’m dashing around like a headless chicken, a time when I can’t find anything and want to rip out my whole bloody wardrobe and start again.

In the meantime, until I find the time that is, my wardrobe just keep growing.

Honestly, there is so much in my wardrobe now, that I have no idea what I have any-more.

I’m thinking of selling off some of my hardly worn pieces, but not sure how to do it – any suggestions greatly received. The rest, I will continue to give to charity.

Anyway, because I can’t see half of the clothes I own, I find myself wearing the same thingsย ALLย of the time.

I’ve even found myself experimenting with the things I love.

Which to be honest, is not really me. I’m more of a classic dresser.

But since I followed the Fox In Flats style dare prompt Day 12: Fave Dress, different:

Dress and Jeans Combo

I tucked my Bohemian Traders Shirtmaker Dress into my Katies Fashion jeans.

Who even am I?

Just call me Ms. Experimental – because I seem to be on a roll.

Tights and leggings? Yes.

But jeans – No.

But I quite like it…

Dress and Jeans Edit

French Terry Stripe Dress $129.00 * Bohemian Traders | Katies jeans from last year | Country Boots (last year) but these are almost identical

There is always a first time for everything right?.

I was desperate to wear my new stripe frock (WITH POCKETS – I might add) from Bohemian Traders – (here’s me in the black and white version) but I was too lazy to tan or shave my legs…I know, lazy-girl beauty as it’s best – if in doubt cover it up!

I was standing looking for a warm top to wear with my jeans.

My eye went straight to this dress and before I knew it, I was conjuring up this outfit it my head.

As soon as I put it on I liked the look.

This combination works well because of the dress shape.

The loose fit is perfect for going over jeans, mainly because you can’t see the waist and zip.

Dress length is the key to success for pulling this off – because the dress is acting more like a tunic.

Any dress that sits slightly on or above the knee, and is not too fitted, works like a dream for dual purpose.

Plus, it’s also a great way to extend the life of your favourite frocks through the cooler months.

This look works with both a boots and heels – but would also look amazing with a sneaker.

Or go for a preppy look with a brogue, a killer bag and a huge scarf.

With a little imagination, the possibilities are endless.

Just think how your wardrobe could change by experimenting with what you already have.

I’ll be doing this for the foreseeable future, that is, until I find half of the stuff that is hiding from me in my Tardis of a wardrobe ๐Ÿ˜‰

So pray tell, am I the only one with a chaotic wardrobe? Do you plan time for regular wardrobe edits? If so, tell me your secret.

Do you experiment with your clothes?ย

I know, stop, with the bloody questions Bev!

  • I can’t even being to tell you. I need some serious organising. Looking gorgeous as usual. Rachel xx

  • Love this Bev – I’m a big fan of the tunic/short dress over the skinny jean. It covers my bottom and allows me to wear my fave frocks for longer. x

    • So true Vanessa – my butt welcomes any coverage it can get! To be honest, I can’t believe its taken me so long to jump aboard xx

  • Guess where I’m going in my lunch today? Sussan! Thanks for the fabulous advice Ladybug Mwah xx

  • I’m much the same. My wardrobe is chaotic to say the least. I was thinking of restarting my should it stay or should it go… NOW challenge and share some of the more questionable items on Instagram or the blog and get some much needed help on where to start.

    • Raychael we sound like wardrobe twins…my problem is I love nearly everything, but there is just too much to enjoy with only 7 days in a week! xx

  • Lisa I’m desperate for a good pair of Ponte leggings. Finding the right pair is proving difficult though – have you seen any on your shopping travels?
I would love you to come and do a wardrobe edit with me gorgeous girl…I’m sure you would go home with bagfulls of stuff too – my wardrobe is bursting at the seams!
I’ve been thinking about doing ebay but it feels like a lot of hardwork – maybe a quick instagram sale is the way to go! Thanks darling xx

  • I hear you!!!! I’m suddenly craving all things minimalist; starting with my wardrobe! Love you in jeans, the jeans and dress look never dates, gorgeous styling Bev xx

    • Thanks so much Kate.
Your post was perfect timing for me, I need encouragement to get started and your wardrobe styling made me want to replicate exactly what you have done – simply divine xx

  • Flat bum mum

I love the dress and jeans combo Bev!

I am a chronic over-buyer too. I think the best way to wardrobe cull is to set aside a good block of time and get really honest with yourself. Taking a selfie of outfits your unsure about helps to see if something is worth keeping or not.

    Good luck!
    Bron x

    • Bron what fabulous advice – thank-you! I become obsessed by certain outfits, that just have to come home with me – I guess its one of the hazards of loving fashion though!
Glad you love the dress and jeans combo too xx

  • My wardrobe is starting to reach chaotic status eek! Doesn’t help that I have things across three wardrobes – too many bits and pieces and too hard to view it all! Love love love the striped dress with jeans. I shall be doing this soon!! xox

    • Wendy my clothes are spread far and wide around all of the bedrooms in the house too! I never know what I have so tend to keep pulling at the same things – which means this little combo will be on high-rotation! xx

  • Petra

I seem to regularly cull – possibly because I’m not super happy with whatever I buy! There are the odd things that I like, and I keep on re-wearing them and then when I absolutely need to replace them because they’re too worn, I go out and buy something as simillar to them as I can find!!! I like a mix and match basics kind of wardrobe, and all my shoes are black (boring I know) and match everything too! I love bracelets tho’ – I can shop for them til the cows come home! Have a great week Bev ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Thanks Darling…this week is my 6 days straight at work – wishing Sunday at 4pm to come at me!
I’m so envious that everyone is brilliant at culling their wardrobes. My problem is the opposite to yours, I actually LOVE most of the things I buy and can’t bear to part with them xx
Bracelets are one of my favourite pieces of jewellery – I bet your collection is amazing…xx

  • Jan Wild

You could try e-bay for selling although that can be frustrating. I am very fortunate as a wonderful woman in our community organises a Clothing Connection sale once or twice a year where you price and hang your own items for sale, she takes 10% to cover costs and you get the rest when your stuff sells. It has become quite a big deal in our community. Sadly though no matter what you choose you will have to do a cull first ๐Ÿ™

    • Jan what a fabulous way to sell your clothes! What a clever lady – that is community service at its best!
And yes, the cull is imminent – and then maybe a quick Instagram sale as suggested by Lisa (Queen of Thrift) xx

  • Norlin Mustapha

Yeah I experiment too. Especially making dresses go a longer way and wearing them as tops ๐Ÿ˜‰ Great styling work there, Bev.

    • Thanks beautiful…until I find the time to cull my wardrobe, I may just be continually re-inventing the first thing I lay my hands on! xx

  • Love the dress. As always Bev you look amazing. V x
