Silk and the wide leg pant.

I was lucky enough to attend an event for Country Road VIP customers at the new store in Indooroopilly (Brisbane) recently.

Now, for anyone that knows me, this was a straight up invitation (permission) to buy a new outfit…it would be rude not too, don’t you think? 😉

So as I’m sure you can imagine – my mind went  into full on fashion frenzy overdrive.

With brand new stock arriving everyday – I have been spoilt for choice from the collection.

In the back of my mind though, I knew exactly what I wanted to wear… I had been secretly eyeing-off (lusting) after this suit for a couple of weeks.

The silk crepe-de-chine loveliness, coupled with the relaxed boyfriend jacket and wide leg pant was just a little too fabulous for me to pass-by.

For anyone that has been lucky enough to attend – new season fashion launch parties are ALWAYS thrilling.

I knew all the staff working would be pumping with excitement…but, for me I just wanted to look and feel amazing.

Afterall, I was not only representing the CR  brand, I was also representing our lovely Maroochydore store – that I’m very proud to be a part off. Good things are born from the Sunshine Coast I tell you – Good Things! We have a fabulous team.

Anyway, I wanted to walk through the door of the store at 5pm with the best of me ‘on-show’.

First impressions are the lasting impressions in my book. They truly count.

Especially because I didn’t really know a soul.

Not sure about you, but somehow I manage to get most of my confidence from my appearance.

Some might find this fact hard to believe, but its complete honesty. If I don’t think I look good I just want to hide in a dark corner.

If need to look in the mirror and feel happy as a sand-boy with my hair, make-up and outfit – no matter how awkward or anxious I maybe inside, I’m then able to throw my shoulders back and get on with the job in hand.

Yes, I can overcome most things if I FEEL good.

Choosing this suit made perfect sense to me.

  • Silk is by far my favourite fabric.
  • Black is my favourite colour.
  • Pant suits fit any occasion.

BINGO – outfit sorted in a heart-beat!

For the evening I actually wore it with these mules and this tee-shirt.

It worked well for both comfort and style. I also didn’t want to look like I had tried too hard.

As it was, I felt great – I think my new hair was the finishing touch – I felt classic with a touch of age-appropriate edgy-ness 😉

Now before we go any further let’s address these wide leg pants.

It goes without saying that after a couple of years of reaching for our favourite skinny jeans, jeggings and ponte pants – most people want run a mile at the mere mention of a wide leg pant.

But, if worn correctly – they are actually quite easy to wear.

  • Don’t be afraid to add a boxy top to a pleated pant. It can work, as long as the top doesn’t fall much lower than the waistband of the pants.
  • Unless you are a skinny Minny add a heel or a wedge.
  • Skinny tall sisters? Wear it with a pair of sneakers or espadrilles.
  • Top/tee’s are better either tucked in, or if left out, make sure they are not too long and over-powering.

Silk Crepe de Chine Jacket $299.00 (out of stock online).

Silk Crepe de Chine Pant $199.00

Foil Brush Stroke Tee-Shirt $79.95

Print Kimono Top (now in the outlet store) $69.95

Avery Point Wedge $149.00

Antonia Mule Heel $179.00

I made the most of my day before the styling event started, by meeting up with my gorgeous girl Ms.May.

We managed to sneak in some much needed Mumma and daughter time over lunch in Paddington (LOVE Paddington – so much fabulousness in one place)….AND I might even of headed out in Brisbane with my girl on my way back to the hotel after the event – cheeky I know – wonderful YES.

Especially on a school night!

Are you a wide pant kinda girl? Or will you be holding on to your skinny jeans for dear life?

Me? I’ll be doing both 🙂

Its wardrobe Wednesday time again…so I’m also hanging out with the Glam Squad at Kimbalikes place xx

    • Awwww thanks lovely! I think heels are the key to pulling off the wide leg pant – unless of course you’re the 6ft tall model type – which I am certainly not…! xxx Mwah

  • Love this suit on you Bev. I am happy to try a wide leg pant – I have more fashion clues now that when they were in fashion last time. I think a heel is a must for me too. xxx

    • Thanks gorgeous!

    • Oooo Lisa, love the sound of that white silk jacket – it sounds all kinds of awesome to me. I can’t wait to see a pic of you wearing it…although I guess you are waiting for the weather to warm up in your neck of the woods still?
A jumpsuit is fabulous for your shape and figure (I struggle finding jumpsuits that are long enough in the body for me) but I know it’s a key seasonal piece you will pull off to perfection gorgeous girl xxx Mwah

  • Petra

Great suit on you – and just love the hair 🙂 xo

    • Thanks so much Petra – I am so delighted with my hair…it has cut the styling time down by half! xx

  • Every thing that I can’t make work is rocking on you. White, black, wide legged pants! Perfect on you. My objection to wide legged pants is that they make me look wide. It’s due to my no waistedness with comparatively narrow hips. I used to get away with them before I was 30. That’s when I fell pregnant and got thighs for the first time in my life. This is also why you will never find me in bootleg pants. I can pull off a bell bottom but have no desire to!

You were a fabulous ambassador for your store and I’m loving that edgy new do on you. Totes agree about the outer armour giving inner confidence!

Thanks for being a fabulous Glam Squad member for Wardrobe Wednesday xx

    • What I adore about this wonderful online community, is the diverse style we all bring to the melting pot. BUT at the same time, we all appreciate and feel inspired by these differences. Even if we know they won’t work for us, they still make us think. Which is all kinds of amazing in my book!

Your sense of style and use of colour always challenges me to step out of my classic monochrome comfort zone. Thanks to you pattern clashing is now something I embrace on a daily basis xx

So on behalf of all of the lovely Glam Squad girls, thanks being the gorgeous hostess with the mostess darling, xx

  • Kelly

I love wide leg pants and that suit is all sorts of fabulous!! I am love with so much Country Road stuff at the moment … I can feel a little shopping trip coming up.

    • How good is the new range Kelly? Wide leg pants have always been a favourite of mine – add in the silk and I found it totally irresistible! xx

  • This suit is fantastic! I have added it to my HAVE to have list. I love silk and wide legs too, and that blazer, the slouchy ness, to die for. You look so brilliant in it too!

    • Sarah, thanks so much. The suit is all kinds of awesome – classic, smart and casual all rolled into one. But the very best thing? Both the jacket and pants work just as good individually…the outfit possibilities are endless, which helps to justify the cost of silk. One of my best purchases yet! xx

  • Oh I love the wide pant look on you. So true, I feel more confident when I look good. I may have to keep an eye out for some wide leg pants. One day I’ll be able to head back into Country Road stores. At the moment I’m wearing the looks vicariously through you. Mwah. xx

    • Jo, you always make me giggle – thanks so much Petal – I’m really embracing the wide leg at the moment.
