What’s your signature scent?

Do you have a signature scent?

A delicious smell that everyone recognises you by?

Would your friends and family instantly know you had walked in to a room just by twitching their noses?

I can remember the first time this happened to me; it was quite a few years ago. But I loved it.

One of my friends daughters was such a cutie {she was probably only 5 at the time} I popped in to their house for a catch-up and she was upstairs playing, but she shouted down the stairs ‘is Bev here Mum? because I can smell her’ – her sense of smell must have been on exceptionally high alert that day!

From then on she would always smell me when I picked her up for a cuddle, or plunge her face into a scarf I was wearing. She just loved my smell.

This small but unique bond between us made me smile every single time I saw her.

The strange thing was though, I could never smell myself. Does that happen to you too when you are wearing your favourite perfume?

I truly believe you have found your perfume soul-mate if you can’t smell it yourself, but everyone else can.

Want to know what the perfume was? DKNY Woman and I still wear it to this day. As soon as I lift the bottle and inhale the fragrance it gets me every-time.

Finding your smell can be a process of elimination.

Growing up, I was attracted to Rive Gauche by Ives St Laurant – do you remember it?

In fact it’s probably still going strong, it was banished from my radar as soon as I have found my place in perfume heaven {just checked and it is still around}.

I was also partial to Charlie and Lou Lou then too – just put it down to the fact that my sense of smell was still developing!

It did take me quite a few years to secure my signature. I mostly stay true to DKNY but occasionally I nip over to the Prada side and douse myself in Infusion D’Iris.

I only really started to wear Infusion D’Iris after my Mummy {Iris} died. The first time I laid eyes on the scent was in the departure area of Heathrow Airport. Being such an emotional fool I prayed I would love it instantly just because it was her name Iris.

So strange what we cling on to sometimes, don’t you agree? I am such a sentimental fool.

The Iris May team have all chosen the two favourite smellies each to share with you.

Iris May Signature Scents

Bev:

1. DKNY Woman

Blood Orange, Chilled Mandarin Vodka, Tomato Leaf, Yellow Waterlilies, Daffodils and White Birch.

My nose perceives this to be clean, crisp, fresh and flowery – I have decided that it will always be mine.

4. Prada Infusion D’Iris

Mandarin Orange, Orange Blossom, Iris, Cedar, Vetiver, Frankicense, Benzoin, Galbanum.

Soft and flowery and always makes me think of my mummy, my inspiration.

Mr IM

3. Prada Amber Pour Homme

Bergamot, Cardomon, Neroli, Geranium, Orange Blossom, Ripe Leather, Patchouli, Sandalwood, Myrrh, Vetiver, Tonka Bean Vanilla, Mandarin, Saffron

I love Mr IM to wear a smell that is on the feminine side of masculine – do you know what I mean when I say that? Every gay guy I know always smells divine but never overly masculine. Prada Amber Pour Homme fits the bill perfectly and is Mr IM’s favourite.

5. Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male

Lavender, Bergamot, Cinnamon, Cumin, Orange Blossom, Vanilla, Tonka Beans, Sandalwood and Cedarwood.

Very similar characteristics as #3 but the smell is completely different. Mr IM wears this fragrance to work – it still sits perfectly on the feminine side of masculine though – which pleases me no end. A guy wearing a great scent can melt me in seconds.

Ms. May

6. Thierry Mugler Alien

Sambac, Jasmin, Cashbean, White amber, Vanilla and Orange Blossom.

Ms May fell instantly in love with this perfume. It is definitely her signature scent. When she comes home I can smell her long after she has left. Alien is a lasting fragrance that she just adores and like me gets recognised by.

2. Bvlgari Omnia Crystalline

Bamboo, Nashi, Lotus flower, Balsa Wood, Japanese Pear, White Sandalwood.

This is a new addition as far as fragrance goes for Ms. May. She is a very loyal girl in every way and that includes her smellies. Crystalline is soft, feminine and light enough to wear all through the summer months. Delightful.

Are you loyal to one brand? Or do you hop from one fragrance to another? Either way, what’s your favourite?

Bev,

    • Someone recognising you by your perfume is such a huge compliment. What I love most of all though is the individuality that fragrance gives every single person xx
